Hey Best Enders, welcome to the succinctly named “Civic Holiday” mid summer long weekend!!! Or almost — I do realize that this newsletter comes out on Thursday (but who’s really working that hard today and tomorrow anyways?)
And it’s not just a long weekend…it’s a CARIBANA long weekend! I encourage everyone over 30 to do hip flexor stretching if you intend to be dancing like this for 3 days straight:

While we’ve recently talked a lot about closures, there are good things happening too. Like a squirrel themed cocktail bar opening this fall near Davenport and Ossington — stay tuned for more on that!
And if you’re like this unfortunate newsletter man and don’t have a cottage to repair to fear not — there’s a ton of events to look forward to in addition to the Caribana bacchanalia, including pro wrestling, table top gaming, and not one but TWO Pokemon themed events.
But first…updates!
West End Updates
Hot dogs! Get your hot dogs! Primrose Bagels is hosting a Hot Dog Night for the rest of summer

Photo from Toronto Life, courtesy of Primrose Bagels
If you think there’s something suggestive about a place selling both bagels and hotdogs…well frankly, you’ve got a filthy mind. Regardless, last week Primrose partnered with Kwinter’s King Sam Hot Dogs to kick off their reccuring Hot Dog Night(s) (future dates to be announced — keep an eye on their insta.)
While hot dogs and bagels may seem like an…odd pairing, Sam Davis, owner of Primrose assures us it’s not. “Hot dogs and bagels go together like spaghetti and meatballs,” he told Toronto Life. “They’re both part of that classic, timeless canon of deli food. We’re all about tradition, and it just made sense to partner with the storied Kwinter’s hot dog family.”
Sorry lovers of heritage buildings and books — Bloor/Gladstone Library will be closed for 2 months starting in August

You know the old saying: “When one library reopens, another closes.” Because shortly after the Junction Triangle branch opened after flooding, the Bloor/Gladstone branch (which incidentally tied for 3rd most iconic landmark in a recent West End Raccoon poll) is shutting its doors for roof repair until — well they say October, but I’m not exactly holding my breath.
Now, too be fair, they’re worried about leaks. And as the JT library proved, books and water DO NOT mix. If you’ve got a book on hold, you can pick it up at the Dufferin/St. Clair branch while the Bloor/Gladstone location is closed. Now we wait to see how close to October these repairs really take.

Buying or selling in West Toronto? I No-Ah Guy. (...and yeah, I'm that guy!)
House hunting can feel like you're always one step behind. You spend months refreshing listings, touring homes, and somehow still show up empty-handed... kind of like getting to Badiali and realizing you forgot your credit card. That's where I No-Ah Guy comes in.
Tell me what your dream home looks like, I'll put my network to work and find opportunities that never make it to the public market. In fact, 2 of my last 3 clients purchased their homes off-market right here in West Toronto. I've had the privilege of helping countless happy clients find a place they love, and I'd love for you to be next. Let's chat about your dream plans over a cappuccino at Ethica, and together we'll make your next move happen.

Last week’s poll made it clear — WER readers want faster streetcars, even if it means fewer stops.
This week, dear readers, indulge me in another sidewalk-themed inclusion. Six years ago, my wife and I signed our last name into some wet West End concrete. I reckon it’s a bit faded, but still there! If you find it, reply to this email with a pic and the nearest intersection for a shoutout (…and maybe a prize?!)

Relatively Affordable House of the Week

This is a two-bed apartment in a converted office building in the Junction listed for just $500k! 303-1 St Johns has more than a thousand square feet, lots of natural light, a nice kitchen, and a real Dr. Melfi’s office energy in that one part. I mean that’s an incredible deal right?
What I’ve learned from doing these surprisingly cheap places is that there’s often A Catch. This place has 2 Catches. The first is that the old owner appears to be something of a chair fanatic. This apartment has about 15 different types of chairs, most positioned in bizzare angles. The second is that the maintenance fees are $1.5k per month. I still think it’s a good deal for someone. Probably.
