🦝 Sunshine, Jazz, and Christmas?!

What's happening in the West End June 19th to 23rd.

Happy Thursday Toronto and welcome to this week’s West End Raccoon.

This Saturday is the longest day of the year and thus the summer solstice. Just as we were getting used to these sunny nights, the days are going to start getting shorter!

According to Icelandic folk tradition, rolling in the dew on the morning of the solstice is a cure for illness and will bring clear skin. I promise not to judge if I see you doing it.

🎉 Give Me Liberty

Thursday 4PM @ Lamport Stadium

It’s street festival season people. This is now three weeks in a row where I’ve started the newsletter with one of these bad boys. Give Me Liberty is happening tonight in Liberty Village from 4 until 11. It’s a big fun festival with all of the accoutrements you’ve come to expect this month. Live music, a pop-up market, activities for children, and a beer garden with brews from local spots. Details

🎷 Toronto Jazz Festival

June 20-29, multiple venues

If you been noticing a high concentration of tasteful vintage hats in the city it’s no coincidence - the Jazz Festival is in town. There’ll be buckets of shows over the next week from both well-known artists and well-kept secrets. The whole thing is being hosted by Jeff Goldblum (yes that Jeff Goldblum). It’s mostly in Yorkville but shows will take place all over the city. Tssss tss-tss-tssss tss-tss-tsss Details and showtimes

West End Updates

We Wish For Sandwich

ANOTHER sandwich spot has hit the West End. Dad’s Breakfast and Coffee opened on Father’s Day (fittingly) and it already has local favourite energy. Located at Dundas and Dufferin, the restaurant’s sign promises “Coffee, Eggs, Bad Jokes, and Good Times”. Menu highlights include coffee slushies, the Katsu Dad sandwich (panko egg, caramelized onion, chilli crisp) and the Summer Dad sandwich (egg, zucchini, whipped lemon ricotta, pesto). For more info visit their Instagram.

Christmas Pop-Up Bar Opens in Parkdale

As the wonderful Shameful Tiki Bar relocates down the road, its owners are launching a summer pop-up in its old location. Not Today Santa will be open from now until August, serving up Christmas vibes throughout the hot summer.

However - don’t expect Distillery District type energy (bespoke tinsel, IG stories, and peppermint espresso martinis). This bar is going for a more dive-y, Las Vegas type of Noel. Think mai tais, dark & stormys, and Elvis’ Christmas Album. More info on Instagram.

Closures Closures Closures

Time for your weekly TTC closure update! Line 1 will be closed between St Clair West and St. Andrew this weekend. Kipling Station will also be closed for those heading West. Shuttle buses will be available :)

Fancy House of the Week

43 Riverside Drive - is this the nicest house I’ve ever included? Amazing interior, great location with a view of the river, and an insanely beautiful outdoor pool. I’m running out of things to say about these types of houses. It’s a nice place, I’d live there for sure. $5.4 million, check it out.
